Raffles Family Collection

The Raffles Family Collection is an archive comprising letters, papers and drawings relating to Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles (1781–1826), the most important early British colonial administrator in South East Asia and the founder of Singapore.
The Raffles Family Collection joins
related holdings, making the whole
the most important archive of Raffles
material anywhere in the world. The
purchase was made possible by the
Heritage Lottery Fund, the Art Fund,
John Koh, Friends of the British
Library, Friends of the National
Libraries, and public donations.
